LA GRANDE LIFE – Hq, a mixed-use creative space and event venue located at 112 Depot Street in La Grande, Oregon’s historic downtown has had to be creative during the Covid-19 pandemic to stay afloat.  Over the past two years, the venue has delivered live music events, film screenings, EOU presentations, conversations around diversity and equity, race and religion. Co-owners Jesse Cimon and Christopher Jennings hope to see those days again, but as many small businesses across the nation have found, they are having to adapt and pivot to keep moving forward.

As a means to keep audiences active and to continue to provide a platform for local, regional, and visiting artists, hq has teamed up with Cold Coffee Media to record, edit and distribute via social media platforms (facebook & youtube) a weekly ‘Three Song Set’. Hq will be presenting its tenth production in the series this Friday, July 10th at 9pm. This week will feature local musician and EOU graduate Adam Lange. Future sets will include, R&M (Randolph & Mandella) from Pilot Rock, Oregon,  J.J. Hill from Pendleton, Oregon and Bart Budwig from Enterprise, Oregon. The productions are archived and can be viewed in their entirety at Follow HQ on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram for notifications of new programming.

As the pandemic continues to impact the economy, performance and art-focused event venues are blinking out of existence. Hq has been working with the Portland-based Independent Venue Coalition to garner specific funds from the recently-passed CARES act to prop up these most vulnerable of businesses and nonprofits. These venues have no clear indication on when they can become active again.

From the IVF website: Oregon venues need your help! First to close, last to reopen, independent venues face permanent closure if there is no direct relief from the government. Unlike other industries, venues aren’t receiving any assistance to assure survival (the PPP is not applicable to most of your favorite venue’s needs). You can support these venues by learning more:

As hq reimagines how to reach audiences,  it is working with partners like Eastern Oregon Film Festival and Christ Church La Grande to develop a platform for community production, activation, and engagement. Through online distribution of content created from the ground-up in La Grande, hq hopes to build an audience across the Pacific Northwest, both artists and viewers alike. When hq is able to once again provide live cultural content it will look to that audience to come visit La Grande and celebrate with us.

Hq would like to thank the local business sponsors, groups and individuals that have contributed to the development and continuation of this series. Official sponsors include Ten Depot Street, Side A Brewing, Blue Summit Realty Group, Christ Church LG, Cold Coffee Media, La Grande Life and Eastern Oregon Film Festival.
