Union County Emergency Services –

A Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for Union County and areas of Northeast Oregon through Thursday morning. A Flood Warning is issued when flooding is imminent or already occurring. Rivers, creeks, and streams will have sharp and rapid rises. Many waterways will reach bank-full stage with most expected to crest tonight. Flooding may be seen later today and tonight in La Grande, Elgin, Summerville, and North Powder. Main stem rivers expected to reach flood stage are the Grande Ronde River at Troy and the Imnaha River at Imnaha. A near flood stage level is expected for the Grande Ronde River near Perry. The rises in water are very dependent on where the heaviest rain falls. Extreme caution should be used when near creeks, streams, and river beds, especially in areas affected by the February flooding. High-water levels may respond differently due to the previous flooding than what has been seen in the past. Some areas throughout Union County may also experience high water onto roadways. As a precautionary measure, do not drive vehicles through high water areas. This is predicted to be a short duration event, and conditions should improve significantly within the next 24-36
hours.
