Santa’s elves are perhaps the most well-known elves, helping build all those toys we find under the Christmas tree each year; however, did you know that there’s a Library Elf? While maybe not an elf in the mythical sense, it is, nevertheless, a very helpful service for all kinds of library-centered scenarios. According to the company’s tagline, Library Elf helps you “manage your library loans and holds.” At first glance, that might not seem like the coolest or shiniest service in town, but here’s the thing: If you have multiple library cards to keep track of, say, your own card plus the kids’, you can quickly and easily link and check multiple accounts at the same time, without needing to log in to each account separately through the SAGE/library catalog website. And once you sign up for Library Elf, it’s like having your own little digital personal assistant who gently reminds you about upcoming overdue items, alerts you about actual overdue items and hold requests and — probably the best feature ever — auto-renews your library items if they are eligible for renewal.
Even if you’ve signed up for SAGE’s text message or email reminders about upcoming overdue items, it’s still pretty easy to slip right back into the daily grind and forget all about that audiobook sitting on your night stand for another couple of days. With Library Elf, you can set up library materials to automatically renew once they’re due, offering you a bit of a reprieve from those overdue blues. This feature will only kick in as long as no one else has a request on the same item you have checked out, but still — you can’t beat the convenience and peace of mind it provides. To connect your library account(s) to this invaluable service, go to www.LibraryElf.com, click on List of Libraries, scroll down until you find Oregon and Cook Memorial Library, and then click on sign-up and you’ll be on your way to peace of mind and fewer late or lost fees.
